ProQuest Accessibility Information

ERA has an established workflow for requesting accessible copies of ProQuest e-books. Please see the links below for information about ProQuest products and accessibility.

Availability

Ebook Central e-books have different permissions depending on a variety of factors.  All e-books should be "Available for Online Reading", meaning that the full text can be viewed in Ebook Central's Online Reader.  Some books might also be available to download in their entirety for a maximum of 21 days.  Ebook Central indicates the permissions of each book (see examples below).  If a book listed in IUCAT indicates that it is not available for Online Reading or for Full Download, it should be reported to libera@indiana.edu by library staff.

NOTE: If there is only 1 copy of an e-book available, it cannot be downloaded/checked out. Instead, users may only read the e-book online.

In 2017, the Bloomington campus setup automatic upgrades for titles with limited user availability. If a second user attempts to open a 1-user book, it will automatically upgrade to 3-users, and if 3 users attempt to use the book, it will upgrade to unlimited users. There have been some problems with non-linear e-books upgrading to unlimited users. However, in 2019 Monographic Acquisitions and the Head of Acquisitions made some changes to hopefully correct this problem. This upgrade feature is available on many, but not all ProQuest e-books. If the e-book is not available in a higher user limit, is no longer available for purchase, or the cost of the upgrade is over the limit, it will not upgrade automatically.

Simultaneous User Limits

To determine the simultaneous user limit for ProQuest Ebook Central titles, navigate to the e-book's detailed record page. IUCAT links to ProQuest e-books will take you to that page automatically.

In the middle of the display there is the Availability section. This will indicate the number of simultaneous users permitted.

Detailed display of the e-book Love in ProQuest Ebook Central. An arrow indicates the availability section.

In the event that the availablity indicates "multiple copies" rather than a more precise number, please contact libera@indiana.edu for assistance. The title is either part of our DDA program (and not yet purchased) or was purchased with a non-linear access model. We can confirm this information for you, as well as let you know how many non-linear uses remain for the current year.
