Tony Smith : Source, Tau, Throwback by Christopher M. Ketcham Encompassing three works: Tau (1961-62), Source (1967), and Throwback (1976-77), the exhibition touches on key moments in the artist's evolving sculptural practice. Shaped by his training and prior career as an architect, Smith's work is animated by a dynamic concept of space and a commitment to sculpture as an object to be catalyzed by the direct engagement of the human body. Possessing no traditional front or back and occupying non-linear planes of space, Smith's sculptures reward an ambulatory viewing experience, offering a range of perspectives and understandings as one circulates the work.

Not an Object, Not a Monument by Tony Smith (Artist, Text by) Between 1960 and 1980, the year of his death, sculptor Tony Smith produced 47 large-scale outdoor works that were both revolutionary and vastly influential. This publication is the first to bring together all of Smith's monumental outdoor works in a single volume, chronologically exploring the developments that were taking place within them over the course of these pivotal years.

Tony Smith: Louisenberg by Tony Smith (Artist); Robert Storr (Text by) Drawn from a critical period of Tony Smith's career, when the artist lived in Germany from 1953-55, the Louisenberg series is named after a German geological site. Containing paintings and drawings based on an abstract grid composed of circles--some self-contained, others fused into peanut-shaped groups of two or more--the work's modular approach reflects Smith's architectural ideas and prefigures his familiar sculptural methods.

The Smiths by Tony Smith; Kiki Smith; Seton Smith; Michael Rush (Editor); Gilbert Brownstone (Contribution by) Not your typical family, the Smith household consisted of renowned architect and modernist Tony Smith and his daughters, artist Kiki Smith, whose multimedia works have drawn on mythic, folk, and biblical stories, and photographer Seton Smith, known for her large-format Cibachromes of seemingly banal interiors. For the first time, works by all three Smiths appear together, presenting one American family, two generations of the vanguard, three distinct visions, and the exigencies of a range of media.

Tony Smith by Tony Smith (Artist); Richard Tuttle (Artist) While teaching at the Pratt Institute of Art, New York and at Bennington College, Vermont in the late 50s and early 60s, Tony Smith turned his attention toward the development of a geometric language expressed through sculpture. During the same time, his most creative period, he translated this language into two dimensions, using painting as a medium for the interplay between space and form. Many of the paintings included herein have never before been published. Richard Tuttle, once an assistant to Smith, offers an insider's view into the late artist's work.
