During an embargo period, a work's record is publicly visible but users will not be able to view or download the attached files. When the embargo period expires, IUScholarWorks will automatically make the complete work accessible.
Setting an embargo can be done during the item submission process, but collection administrators can also add an embargo after deposit. This process is a little different from editing most metadata.

Navigate to the item record that you wish to edit. Select the "Edit Item" button with the pencil icon. |

You should see the "Edit Item" page with the Metadata tab open. Select "Bitstreams" tab from the top menu. ("Bitstream" is DSpace terminology for the files associated with a deposit and their individual metadata.) |

| 3 |
On the next page, find the bitstream labeled "Bundle: Original" - this should be the primary file connected to the deposit. Note: The following steps will need to be repeated for every bundled file that needs to be behind an embargo. You shouldn't edit the policies for the license, thumbnail, or text extract bitstreams. |

| 4 | You should see a page with the filename at the top. Scroll down to the "Edit bitstream's policies" link. | ![]() |
| 5 |
On the policies page, we're looking for the policy named "READ." In typical cases, it's the only policy list. Select the "Edit" icon for the "READ" policy. |

SAVE the "Edit resource policy" changes. Click BACK through the bitstream editor. Then SAVE the edited bitsream.
You may then check your work by viewing the item record in a private browsing tab or by logging out. If you've successfully set the policy, you'll be able to see the file name with a lock icon but not be able to download it. |
