IUScholarWorks User Guide

Learn how to deposit your scholarly output into IUScholarWorks.

Retrieve a Deposit's Permanent URL

Once an item has been deposited, the permanent URL will be available on the item’s IUScholarWorks page.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the item.
  2. On the left side of the item’s page, find the section labeled “Permanent Link.”
  3. Right click to copy handle.net URL.

Request a DOI

You may request IU Libraries create a DOI for your deposit. To do so, please email iusw@iu.edu with the following information:

  • The title of your deposit.
  • The deposit's handle.net permanent URL.

IUScholarWorks registers DOIs using DataCite. It may take up to a week for the DOI to be requested and redirected.

Review a Deposit's Statistics

IUScholarWorks collects statistics for each deposit, including page views and downloads.

To see the statistics for a specific work,

  1. Navigate to the item’s page.
  2. From the top menu bar, select Statistics.

For works deposited before January 2024, you will see double the files under the "Top File Downloads" heading. The files tagged "legacy" represent downloads before that date. Total downloads can be determined by combing the figures for each duplicate.

A screenshot of a top files download box with the same file listed twice, the second time tagged "legacy." The Downloads column in this example provides a "Total" number of downloads that combines the two.

If you have any questions about a work's statistics, please email Scholarly Communications.

Revise a Deposit

Under certain circumstances, IUScholarWorks will allow a deposit to be revised after submission. Revisions may consist of updating metadata, modifying the embargo period, or creating a record for a new version which will be cross-referenced with the original deposit.

These circumstances include, but are not limited to:

  • The wrong file was attached.
  • An external link has changed.
  • The metadata contains an error.
  • The permanent URL was added to the original work.

In these circumstances, the scholar or depositor can send the revised metadata information or file attachment with an explanation to the collection administrator or to IUScholarWorks staff.

Request a Deposit's Removal

As a permanent repository, IUScholarWorks can only allow items to be removed under specific circumstances. These include:

  • Permission was not granted by the rightsholder.

Insufficient reasons include: a new version of the work was released, the author has left Indiana University, or the rightsholder has changed their mind.

To have an item removed you will need to contact Scholarly Communications at IU.
