Ukrainian academic organizations in the US

Ukrainian Research Institute, Harvard University. Founded in 1973 with financial support from the Ukrainian-American community, HURI is a leading center for interdisciplinary research on Ukraine. Their mission is to advance knowledge of Ukraine through teaching, research, and publication in the humanities and the social sciences at Harvard and worldwide.


The Shevchenko Scientific Society in the US (Наукове Товариство ім. Шевчeнка в Америці) is a Ukrainian-American scholarly institution incorporated in 1948 in the state of New York. The headquarters of the Society in the US is located in New York City. Besides offices and lecture halls, it contains a specialized library, a depository of archives pertaining to Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora, and an art collection. The Society organizes and sponsors scholarly conferences, colloquia, symposia, and weekly public lectures. It is an affiliate member of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), the Association for the Study of Nationalities (ASN), and the consortium of the greater New York scholarly institutions involved in Ukrainian Studies. While the main focus of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in the United States is on scholarship and education, it also serves the general public: it provides information for students on institutions of higher learning, facilitates neighborhood educational programs, and hosts public lectures and poetry readings.

 
The Ukrainian Institute of America, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the art, music and literature of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora. It serves both as a center for the Ukrainian-American community and as America’s “Window on Ukraine,” hosting art exhibits, concerts, film screenings, poetry readings, literary evenings, children’s programs, lectures, symposia, and full educational programs, all open to the public.”


The American Association for Ukrainian Studies (AAUS) is a registered non-profit educational organization founded in 1989 and dedicated to furthering knowledge about Ukraine, popularizing Ukrainian studies, providing career-building resources to its members, and making the intellectual resources of the organization available to the media and general public.”
