Find Your Item

Find Books and More in OneSearch@IU!

OneSearch searches for books and some articles from a small set of databases. The first step is to find an item using OneSearch@IU.

Using the Advanced Search, you can search for Title, Author, and Keyword. Here's an example of how to find N.K. Jemisin's The Fifth Season.

  1. Put the title in the first line of the search and change the box to TI Title.
  2. Put the last name of the author in the second line of the search and change the box to AU Author.
  3. Click Search.

Review the results to find the book and format you'd like to use.

Is it Available Online?

Finding eBooks through OneSearch:

If the book is available electronically/online, the record will have either an Online Access link or a link to the Full Text / Full Download. Make sure the Location shows one of the IU Bloomington Libraries. We will not have access to electronic materials at other Libraries. This is due to vendor licensing restrictions.

Once you have clicked on the link, you may be prompted to login with your ID and password. We purchase books from several different vendors, and the interfaces work differently.

Finding Articles through OneSearch:

If an article is available electronically/online through the IUB Libraries, you may see a number of links on how to get to your article. Clicking on links to PDF or HTML versions of the article will get you immediate access.

Since OneSearch doesn't look at all 1800+ databases, be sure to use our Database Checker, too. This will search within all of our databases to see if you have instant access to an article.

For articles and books not at IUB:

If we do not have a copy of the book or article you are looking for, please submit an interlibrary loan request. Many items in OneSearch will offer a handy link to fill out a request on your behalf. Be sure to double check its work since it sometimes misses important information!

Is it in Print?

Books in our collection have a Location, Call Number ("Call No."), and a Status. If a book is checked out or otherwise unavailable, you will also see the Due Date.

You can either go to the library where this item is shelved and pick it up, or request it be sent to the front desk of your library of choice.

To request a book, click on Retrieve Catalog Item. This will send you to a new page.

By clicking on Request This, you will be prompted to select which library you would like to pick your book up from (if you are not yet logged in, you will be prompted to do so).

How do I Get Articles and Books Not at IUB?

The IU Libraries partner with hundreds of Libraries across the world! If you have found an item, there's a good chance we can find a way to help you borrow it through Interlibrary Loan. Learn more about ILL in the tutorial below.
