There are many ways to learn GIS! For-credit courses in GIS are offered through the Department of Geography and the O'Neill School. The library offers workshops on GIS tools and methods by request. You can information on those, as well as archived workshop materials and recordings in the Cartoshop Workshops tab. If self-paced learning is more your style, these resources can help you get started and perform specific tasks using GIS.
- ESRI Training - log in with your IU credentials (see video below) to access the large catalog of tutorials and videos for learning the ESRI suite of software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, StoryMaps, and more
- IU Libraries GIS YouTube tutorials - we're adding more videos all the time! These videos cover a wide variety of GIS tools and walk you through performing common tasks in GIS
- Institute for Digital Arts & Humanities (IDAH) Resources - Helpful information on choosing a tool, organizing your data, and quick start guides for various softwares including Carto, Mapbox, and Google MyMaps
- The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science GIS&T Body of Knowledge contains articles and information about key theories, techniques, and topics in GIS
- GIS tutorials from Harvard University's Cartography Lab. Topics include geospatial data, georeferencing, QGIS, and ArcGIS Online
- QGIS Tutorials and Tips includes a comprehensive list of tutorials for common tasks and concepts, using QGIS.
