What is Interlibrary Loan?

The IU Bloomington Libraries will request materials from other libraries for you if we do not own what you are looking for. Any current faculty, staff, or student may use these free services.  Interlibrary Loan is sometimes referred to as ILL.  We also use the jargon: Document Delivery Services.

Big 10 Borrowing

The Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) libraries have a new system for sharing materials, replacing UBorrow. IU Libraries will continue to offer and receive rapid access to the over 90 million books from the collections of the 15 BTAA university libraries.  To find them, search WorldCat!

After clicking on a WorldCat record, look on the right side of the page for a red button labeled "Request through ILL."

BTAA libraries will continue to give preference to Big Ten partners for all requests submitted to interlibrary loan. Books requested will typically arrive on campus within a week and can be checked out for 17 weeks, with an option for a 17-week renewal. The relative proximity of Big Ten Academic Alliance partners, as well as the commitments made by each institution, allows books to be delivered more rapidly.
