What is a Citation?

A citation involves properly crediting the authors of information sources used in a paper or presentation. Remember to cite not only text-based sources, but also images, video, and other media.

Different disciplines use certain citation styles. Use the Citing Sources above on left for options, and ask your professor if she has preferences.

Citing Sources

No matter where your information comes from, you always need to cite your sources. The most frequently used citations have been compiled by the reference librarians on a webpage and handout (APA, MLA and Chicago). These can be found by visiting: http://www.libraries.iub.edu/index.php?pageId-=337
