Indigenous Design

This guide focuses on what indigenous design means--moving beyond just the aesthetic value. Resources include articles, as well as linked firms and designers.

Indigenous Design Firms and Units

Using the drop down menu on the left, you may navigate alphabetically through a list of Indigenous Design Firms and Units. This title is used to express that there are both firms that identify completely, as well as firms that are not majority indigenous, but instead have units within them to design indigenous spaces and engage with indigenous design processes (for example, Waka Māia at Jasmax). Each firm and unit has a list of resources, primarily articles, with additional resources of videos, podcasts, and books when available. Some firms and units are linked to the page of a relevant indigenous designer who works for them and/or has founded them. Please note some firms and units have more resources than others. When possible, the firm or unit's own words are used to describe location.
