Mirrors & Windows

Inspired by the work of Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop, the metaphor of windows and mirrors refers to the capacity of a book to enable children to peer into the lived experiences of others (windows) and to see their own lived experiences reflected in the narrative (mirrors). The resources included on this page direct users to newly published youth literature that represents the diversity of the human experience. For evaluative guidelines see this research guide from Michigan State University Library.
