Environmental Responsibility

By looking for certifications such as LEED, B Corp, Fair Trade, ISO 14001, Green Seal, and CDP, you will have more information about how committed a company is to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

What is LEED?

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world's most widely used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social and governance benefits.

What is B Corp?

B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. In order to achieve certification, a company must demonstrate high social and environmental performance, make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, and exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance available on their B Corp profile.

What is Fair Trade?

Fair Trade USA™ is building an innovative model of responsible business, conscious consumerism, and shared value to eliminate poverty and enable sustainable development for farmers, workers, their families, and communities around the world.

What is ISO 14001?

ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance. ISO 14001:2015 is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability.

What is Green Seal?

Green Seal® is a global nonprofit organization that pioneered the ecolabeling movement with a mission to transform the economy for a healthier, greener world. For 30 years, Green Seal’s rigorous standards for health, sustainability and product performance have driven permanent shifts in the marketplace, empowering better purchasing decisions and rewarding industry innovators.

What is CDP?

CDP (Formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) CDP is a global non-profit that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources, and protect forests. CDP is one of the oldest and largest ESG reporting organizations, and their framework is used by investors, companies, government agencies, cities, states and regions.

Please note, not every certification applies to every business. For example, Fair Trade typically refers to food products, so GameStop would not be listed under Fair Trade certified companies.
