Open Mathematics Instructional Resources

Software and Tools

These resources can facilitate classroom interaction, especially in an online/remote environment. They include software and tools that students and instructors can access from their personal devices, many of which allow for real-time collaboration.

  • Desmos
    • Includes multiple tools to use in mathematics courses, including an HTML5 graphing calculator 
  • Geogebra
    • Various classroom resources that bring together geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics, and calculus
  • Grasple
    • Community created exercises and lessons on math and stats
  • MIT Mathlets
    • A  collection of highly interactive Javascript applets designed for university STEM courses
  • MyOpenMath
    • Online homework, tutorial, and assessment products
    • Similar to Lumen Online Homework Manager, which draws from thousands of interactive assessment questions to help students master math and other quantitative skills; Lumen OHM is an affordable resource, but not free like MyOpenMath
  • SageMath
    • A free open-source mathematics software system
    • CoCalc:  CoCalc, a SageMath product, is a virtual online workspace for calculations, research, collaboration and authoring documents - teachers can obtain a free trial version by emailing help@cocalc.com. For more information on teaching with CoCalc see the Instructor Guide 
  • WeBWork
    • WeBWorK is an open-source online homework system for college-level math and sciences courses. WeBWorK is supported by the Mathematical Association of America and the National Science Foundation and comes with a National Problem Library (NPL) of over 20,000 homework problems
