To create an alert, you must setup an account. Accounts are free and setup takes only a minute or two.
Most subject-specific indexes also offer search alert services. Look for a “Search History/Alert” tab or similar.
Most bibliographic databases have alert services in which you can save search strings online. Whenever the database is updated, any new content that matches your search criteria will be emailed to you. I call this doing research in your sleep.
There are two kinds of alert:
Saved searches--either very basic or very detailed.
