Research Data Management and Sharing

Managing the data for your research project is essential: disorganized files, unclear documentation, inaccessible file formats, or any other number of factors can impact how usable your data are. This guide has been designed to give all researchers, regardless of discipline, a few best practices in data sharing. Each section of the guide includes resources offered here at Indiana University.  

If you are starting a project now, you can start a Data Management Plan (DMP) to guide your work. This is often required by funding agencies when applying for grants—but the process of creating a DMP can be a useful exercise to articulate how you will manage your data before you collect anything. But, if you’ve already started the project, don’t worry! It is never too late.
