ADHD has been called attention deficit disorder (ADD) in the past, but ADHD is now the preferred term because it describes both primary aspects of the condition: inattention and hyperactive-impulsive behavior. Individuals with ADHD can experience problems with paying attention, impulsiveness, controlling their behavior, chronic boredom and restlessness, talking excessively, and being hyperactive (overactive). Usually, symptoms appear before age seven, however it is not uncommon for older children and/or adults to be newly identified.
