Genocide

The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission, is an independent commission of the U.S. Federal Government. For 40 years, the Commission has monitored compliance with the Helsinki Accords and advanced comprehensive security through promotion of human rights, democracy, and economic, environmental, and military cooperation in the 57-nation OSCE region.

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher dedicated to being a resource for its members, government officials, business executives, journalists, educators and students, civic and religious leaders, and other interested citizens in order to help them better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries.

Genocide Watch exists to predict, prevent, stop, and punish genocide and other forms of mass murder. Their purpose is to build an international movement to prevent and stop genocide.

Established in 2002 and supported by annual grants from the Open Society Institute, the War Crimes Research Office is the focal point of several unique programs focusing on accountability for violations of international humanitarian law.

A global, interdisciplinary, non-partisan organization that seeks to further research and teaching about the nature, causes, and consequences of genocide, and advance policy studies on prevention of genocide. The Association, founded in 1994, meets to consider comparative research, important new work, case studies, the links between genocide and other human rights violations, and prevention and punishment of genocide.

The IIGHRS engages scholars and academics in comparative and interdisciplinary research, analysis and publication in the field as genocide is a shared experience. Through ongoing research, publications, engaging conferences and education initiatives, the institute strives to raise awareness of genocide and the necessity of its prevention.

The International Network of Genocide Scholars (INoGS) was founded on 14 January 2005 in Berlin in order to provide genocide studies with a non-partisan community in which to research and present analysis on any aspect of (individually defined) genocide studies. Since their founding, they have maintained support of research-led analysis rather than politically defined policy agendas.

Prevent Genocide International, established in 1998, is a global education network for the prevention of mass atrocities and genocide.

CGHR's mission is to understand and prevent genocide and mass atrocity crimes. In doing so, CGHR takes a critical prevention approach. On the one hand, we grapple with critical human rights issues, including the most pressing 21st century challenges that may give rise to genocide, atrocity crimes, and related interventions. On the other hand, we use a critical lens to rethink assumptions and offer alternative ideas and solutions.

The Stanley Foundation focuses on:
*Helping establish prevention-focused regional networks that support effective policy action at the national, regional, and international levels to build resilience.
*Engaging different policy sectors to work effectively together to develop and promote a resilience agenda.
*Promoting evidence of “what works” in building resilience at the regional, national, and local levels in global-reform processes.  

The Genocide Prevention Task Force, co-chaired by former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright and former Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen, was jointly convened by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, The American Academy of Diplomacy and the United States Institute of Peace. Its final report, Preventing Genocide: A Blueprint for U.S. Policymakers, offers practical recommendations on how to prevent genocide and mass atrocities.

Established in 2005, United to End Genocide is mobilizing the first permanent anti-genocide constituency committed to stopping the worst atrocities around the world.

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (CHGS) promotes academic research, education and public awareness on the Holocaust, other genocides and current forms of mass violence.

World Without Genocide works to protect innocent people around the world; prevent genocide by combating racism and prejudice; advocate for the prosecution of perpetrators; and remember those whose lives and cultures have been destroyed by violence.

Founded in January 1998 to expand the work begun in 1994 by Yale University’s Cambodian Genocide Program, the Genocide Studies Program at Yale’s MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies conducts research, seminars and conferences on comparative, interdisciplinary, and policy issues relating to the phenomenon of genocide, and has provided training to researchers from afflicted regions, including Cambodia, Rwanda, and East Timor.
