According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the 1st Academy Award ceremony was held in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Thursday, May 16,1929.  The Oscar for Outstanding Picture was awarded to Wings. Over the past nine decades, the excitement and pageantry remains the same as we hold our breath for those famous words, "And the Oscar goes to..."

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honors the best films released in 2024. Conan O'Brien will host the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
