Find Books and More in OneSearch@IU!

OneSearch searches for books and some articles from a small set of databases.

The first step is to head to OneSearch@IU -- https://libraries.indiana.edu/databases/onesearch

Using the Advanced Search, you can search for Title, Author, and Keyword. Here's an example of how to find N.K. Jemisin's The Fifth Season.

  1. Click on Advanced search.
  2. Put the title in the first line of the search and change the box from All fields to Title.
  3. Put the last name of the author in the second line of the search and change the box to Author.
  4. Click Search.

Review the results to find the book and format you'd like to use.

Is it Available Online?

Our catalog has a few different ways of showing an eBook is available -- either by showing you the "Access now" link or by having you look a little more closely under the "Access Options" drop-down.

With some books, you will see a box with "Access now" followed by the format (PDF, ebook, online full text, or something similar).  Clicking this link will get you immediate access to the book. (This is also true for journal articles and more).

Once you have clicked on the link, you may be prompted to login with your ID and password. We purchase books from several different vendors, and the interfaces work differently.

Some of our books need to be accessed via login. If this is the case, click the "Access Options" drop-down underneath the book you'd like to read online. Look for "Available on campus and off campus with authorized login." You may be prompted to login with your ID and password. After logging in, you'll have access to the book.

Finding Articles through OneSearch:

If an article is available electronically/online through the IUB Libraries, you may see a number of links on how to get to your article. Clicking on links to PDF or HTML versions of the article will get you immediate access.

Since OneSearch doesn't look at all 1800+ databases, be sure to use our Database Checker, too. This will search within all of our databases to see if you have instant access to an article.

For articles and books not at IUB:

If we do not have a copy of the book or article you are looking for, please submit an interlibrary loan request. Many items in OneSearch will offer a handy link to fill out a request on your behalf. Be sure to double check its work since it sometimes misses important information!

Is it in Print?

Books that are at IU have a Location, Call Number ("Call No."), and a Status. If a book is checked out or otherwise unavailable, you will also see the Due Date.

You can either go to the library where this item is shelved and pick it up, or request it be sent to the front desk of your library of choice.

To request a book, click on Retrieve Catalog Item. This will send you to a new page.

By clicking on Request This, you will be prompted to select which library you would like to pick your book up from (if you are not yet logged in, you will be prompted to do so).

How do I Get Articles and Books Not at IUB?

The IU Libraries partner with hundreds of Libraries across the world! If you have found an item, there's a good chance we can find a way to help you borrow it through Interlibrary Loan. Learn more about ILL in the tutorial below.
