Bloomberg Terminal, Datastream and SDC Platinum

Bloomberg Market Concepts

Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is part of the Bloomberg Certification (BCER) program to teach you how to use the Terminal. The course is self-paced (your progress will be saved as you go), and takes a total of 8-10 hours to complete. You will need to complete this training through the terminals at the library; you cannot do it for free on any other computer.

Log in to one of the Bloomberg computers using your IU login. Click on the Bloomberg icon to open the program (this may take a minute).

Next, create your own account for the Bloomberg Terminal. At the Login screen, select “Create a New Login”. Follow the screen instructions, using your IU email to create the account. Choose a login validation method: SMS text message (fastest option), email, or automated voice call. Enter the code that they send to verify the account. Create a password. You'll  be logged out and presented with a link to sign into Bloomberg again; click that and enter your account information.

Once you are logged in to Bloomberg again, close the IB Manager Window, and type BCER in the command line at the top of the remaining window, and press the GO (enter) key. This will take you the main screen for BCER, where you can sign up for the Bloomberg BMC course.

Click Sign Up and create a BCER account with your IU email. You'll receive a confirmation email with a link to activate your BCER account.

Once your BCER account is active, and the Bloomberg for Education screen appears, click Certificates at the top, and select BMC from the list of available courses, then select a course to begin. The training can be done at your own pace, over as many sessions as you need:

Headphones are strongly encouraged so that everyone doesn’t have to listen to your training sessions
