Digital publishing and the internet has made it easier than ever to share scholarly knowledge, with the potential to expand the scholarly conversation across the globe. However, most scholarship is still produced within a closed system requiring individuals and libraries to pay very high amounts to access scientific and scholarly information. This class project to create a Critical Race Theory in Education - Reader, gives you the opportunity to access and share scholarly knowledge without financial barriers.

Your instructor is choosing to use Open Pedagogy (OP) to work with you to create a publicly accessible reader of Critical Race Theory in Education. OP is learner-driven education that encourages students to take ownership of their learning through renewable assignments - assignments that students create for the purpose of sharing and releasing as Open Educational Resources (OER). OP is a form of public open digital scholarship that enables learners to actively participate in creating knowledge to be shared with others. The reader you create will become an OER.

Open educational resources (OER) are openly-licensed, freely available teaching, learning, and research materials that can be modified and redistributed by users. They can include any type of educational resource, from syllabi to full courses

For this project, you will need to identify an open-access article on critical race theory in education. Open Access (OA) means the free availability of scholarship on the public internet, permitting any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles in accordance with the license that the author has attached to the article to control the integrity of their work and ensure their right to be properly acknowledged and cited.  The next section provides ways to find OA articles.
