World War I Resources

Databases and resources on World War I

This page was created for students in Professor Hsia's course World War I: Global War (History W-203).

Students: Look through the images prior to November 4 and note themes or anything that jumps out at you (and why it jumps out). Be sure to examine both the image and text. Click on images for more information about the posters.

Almost all of the posters come from the Library of Congress World War I Poster Collection. Some of these posters would be considered offensive now, either for what they depict or for what and whom they leave out. To address one significant and revealing absence, that of Black Americans in the Library of Congress collection, I have also added two posters from the Gilder Lehrman Collection at the start of the slides.
