ORCID @ Indiana University

This guide is intended for faculty and student researchers. It contains information about the Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) registry, including how to get, use, and connect your ORCID iD.

ORCID in Research Information Systems

You can easily connect your ORCiD to PubMed, SciENcv, and Europe PubMed Central, to integrate your data, distinguish your work from authors with similar names, and ensure that all your work is reflected even if published under a previous name. You can also sign-in to My NCBI using ORCID and seamlessly exchange data between ORCiD and Web of Science.

Once you have an ORCID iD remember to use it! Add your ORCID iD to email signatures, online profiles, manuscript submissions, peer reviews, grant applications, and more. If a journal or conference you are submitting to does not have a way to include an ORCID iD with your information, consider contacting the editors or organizers and requesting that they make it an option. Check out 'How to Build your ORCID profile' for more info on how to update and use your ORCID account.

Students

ORCID is a great way for students to generate visibility for their work. ORCID profiles support a wide variety of output, from poster projects to student papers to video exhibits, conference papers, blog posts, websites, and even letters confirming your appointment to boards or panels. More information on building your ORCID profile can be found here.

Once you have an ORCID remember to use it! Your ORCID profile acts as a digital portable CV allowing you to easily showcase your work, and allowing others to link to content easily. Add your ORCID to email signatures, online profiles, employment applications, manuscript submissions, scholarship applications, grant applications, and conference presentations.

All information in your ORCID record can be privacy controlled.  You choose whether you want an item to be visible only to you, to trusted organizations, or to the public web.  You control your preferred name and the institutions and entities that ORCID can harvest information from or share information with.  If you need more guidance on privacy and visibility settings, contact iusw@indiana.edu.
