The Summer 2018 ARL Digital Scholarship Insitute will take place at the Herman B Wells Library on the Indiana University flagship campus in Bloomington, Indiana. Bloomington is located in south central Indiana, about 50 miles south of downtown Indianapolis. The area is served by the Indianapolis International Airport (airport code IND), approximately 45 miles away from the IU Bloomington campus.
For those of you flying to and from Indianapolis, GO Express Travel offers a regularly scheduled shuttle service from IND-Bloomington and Bloomington-IND seven days a week (operating hourly in each direction Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday), with a one-way fare of $20.00. Advance reservations may be made online to guarantee seat availability. Airport shuttle pickup/dropoff locations are in the Transportation & Car Rental Center, a short walk across from the main airport terminal. The campus shuttle pickup/dropoff location of IMU is located in the center of campus, adjacent to the Biddle Hotel and the closest location to the Wells Library. [Please note: Although it remains listed on the airport transportation page, Star of America shuttle service ceased operating between Bloomington and the Indianapolis International Airport on Nov. 30, 2017]. Please note: a chartered bus to return attendees to the Indianapolis International Airport is currently be arranged. Further details will be provided.
A taxi from the Indianapolis International Airport to the IU Bloomington campus can be fairly expensive (>$100). Uber or Lyft will likely be less expensive, but it will depend on driver availability and time of day. Most major car rental companies are also represented at the airport.
Parking on the IU Bloomington campus is plentiful. Any vehicle, with or without a valid permit, may park in any CH or ST space during the semester break, which coincides with the entirety of the Institute (July 29 - August 4). There are many CH (Campus Housing) spaces located near the Herman B Wells Library. Alternatively, parking garages, pay lots, ADA-accessible spaces, and metered parking spaces are available throughout campus.
